Power Flushing Service
A Power Flush, as many people call it, is a cleansing process which aims to remove deposits of sludge, rust and any other debris from your central heating system.
These contaminants, if left in the system, can seriously affect the efficiency of a heating system and, in severe cases, a power flush could be the only option available. Over time the water in your pipes, boiler and radiators deposits unwanted byproducts like rust. This rust (plus other dirt and debris) becomes an unpleasant, mud-like substance that professionals affectionately refer to as ‘sludge’. Sludge in your heating system can cause to blockages and corrosion which will lead to both inefficiency and / or boiler breakdown. In extreme cases, it can be so damaging that a complete boiler replacement is needed.
There are a number of ways that a “power flushing”, “jet flushing”, “hard flushing” (expressions used in the heating trade over many years) can be done, some more efficient than others. Here at Lazard Plumbing, we are using high efficiency pumps making sure heating systems are forcibly cleansed using water at high velocity, but low pressure, so that no physical damage is caused to the system.
Every radiator will be individually cleaned without removing it. The objective is to restore the system with circulation and boiler noise problems (caused by sludge and corrosion deposits) to optimum operation. We will use a special designed chemical cleaner to remove central heating system sludge, debris and scale which delivers exceptional cleansing results. We will also heat up the water to make the process even more effective.
What will be cleaned? Boiler heat exchanger, radiators and all pipework in the domestic central heating system. We will also clean the feed and expansion tank in the loft if you have a gravity fed system.
What is the process? We will connect the power flushing pump to the system. Then we will fill the system back up and add the chemical cleaner. The water will be heated up to approximately 50 degrees Celsius to make the cleaning process very efficient. Then we will individually clean every radiator at a time. We will also agitate the radiator to make sure is cleaned properly. We will use large magnetic filter which gets even the dirtiest of systems thoroughly clean.
After the cleaning process is done we will add Inhibitor to the system which provides protection against lime scale and corrosion. Imagine if you place a nail in clean water, after a while it will start to rust. If you add the right amount of inhibitor in the water the nail will not rust.
Your system will benefit instantly after the power flushing is completed.
It will be running much more efficiently, effectively and cleaner, you may also notice reduced boiler noise, more heat in your radiators.
Long term benefits that best describe the usefulness of power flushing:
- Faster radiator “heating up” time
- Boiler runs quieter
- More reliable and efficient central heating system, giving you a warmer house at less cost
- Less risk of breakdown, increases boiler and pump life
- Better hot water temperatures
- More reliable heating
- Rust protected central heating system
- Scale protected central heating system
- Lower fuel bills (especially if system was previously very dirty)
- Piece of mind
