I have a leaky tap that’s in need of repair, but I just don’t have time to tackle it. This is just a minor issue that can wait, right?
Actually, fixing a leaky faucet and other common plumbing repairs should be done as soon as possible, no matter how minor they may seem. Delaying plumbing repairs can turn into a more serious situation down the road, which can end up costing more money and causing significant damage to your fixtures and your home.
What are some of the consequences of delaying plumbing repairs?
Water is a significant monthly expense, especially when you lose it due to leaks. A single leak can add up to 10,000 gallons of water wasted per year. You are not only paying for the water you use, but you are continuing to pay for all of the water that is getting wasted.
Regardless of where a leak is located, small plumbing leaks can turn into larger ones and potentially cause flooding in your home. Of course, flooding can ruin walls, flooring, furniture and personal belongings, so it’s best not to delay any type of repair.
If a leak occurs around the sink, toilet or tub, the moisture from the leak could produce mould and mildew, which can rot the woodwork in your home. Mould and mildew can also cause health problems, especially respiratory illnesses. Mould grows very quickly, so it must be dealt with right away if found inside your home.
Other plumbing problems, like a leak around the toilet seal or a leaky sewer pipe that allows tree roots to enter and clog it, may cause a backed-up sewer line, which could expose you and your family to raw sewage inside your home. So even minor leaks could have a long-term effect on your health if not taken care of immediately.
The best way to prevent plumbing problems from causing widespread damage to your home is to call us for plumbing service right away.
My boiler pressure keeps going up. Any idea what that could be?
